In June, Axcis were thrilled to sponsor one of the biggest web chats ever with the National Autistic Society featuring Dr Temple Grandin. We also had some fantastic CPD training events and recruitment fairs across our branches. Read on to find out more.
SEND Events and Conferences
Regional Manager Mat Webber was pleased to attend the Education Workforce Council at the beginning of the month at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. The Education Workforce Council regulates education practitioners in Wales in the interests of learners and the general public. They aim to enhance the status of the workforce by promoting high standards of professional conduct and competence and by ensuring these standards are maintained. This event was their first national event aimed at all those professionals with an interest in education in Wales. Speakers at the event included Professor Graham Donaldson and Professor John Furlong. The evening had a fantastic turnout and proved to be an interesting forum for many people with concerns over the future of education in Wales. Mat also enjoyed speaking to many school leaders about the challenge of SEND recruitment and how Axcis can help.
Our Team Teach courses are always popular at Axcis, and June saw us run one in the Midlands. Team Teach manager, Susanna Gray ran the course, which was fully booked with enthusiastic staff,
all keen to enhance their skills. Team Teach offers a fantastic opportunity to develop de-escalation strategies, as well as restraint techniques for when the need arises. Schools like this training because it gives staff a consistent approach to challenging behaviour and ensures that similar methods are utilised across the school. We are thrilled to say that all of our candidates who attended passed this course, and are thrilled with their new skills, as well as their certificates!
As part of our sponsorship of the National Autistic Society, Axcis sponsor Network Autism (their online resource). In June, we were excited to be associated with their most popular ever web chat with Dr Temple Grandin. Temple answered lots and lots of questions on
really diverse topics from people on the day and those who had forwarded questions in advance. Some of the topics covered included education, research, employment, disclosure and best friends. If you missed this hugely popular event, you can see a rundown on the Network Autism website.
Recruitment fairs are becoming a regular part of the Axcis diary. We recognise the teaching shortage, and the need to actively seek out staff for the schools we work with. That’s why we went along to the City and Islington College job fair, as well as a Liverpool College event. Axcis staff chatted to students who are seeking a future career in the education sector. From teaching roles to therapy and support staff roles, students were interested in a range of the opportunities Axcis can offer. If you’re a student seeking something similar, why not register or get in touch with your local Axcis office today?
