Are you thinking of making the move to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) teaching or support work but don’t know what to expect? Are you looking to secure work experience to help you make a decision on whether its’ the right move for you or not? The great news is that Axcis can help!
Axcis are the foremost suppliers of SEND staff to mainstream and specialist schools in the UK. We have offices nationwide and work with a range of candidates, from TAs and Teachers to Therapists and School Leaders. We believe “to do well, we must do good”. This philosophy is reflected in our stringent recruitment methods and strong school relationships as well as our charitable support and partnerships.
If you already have experience with education or special needs, then you may find that you do not need to undertake unpaid assignments in order to gain experience in a SEND classroom. By talking to your local Axcis office, their consultants will be able to advise you on whether they feel that they have paid work available for you or not. This could be anything from a few days of supply work to a longer-term full-time contract.
If your current skills and experience do not lend themselves well to paid SEND work, then undertaking a few days of voluntary work can be a highly beneficial experience. Not only will you gain knowledge and understanding of how a special needs classroom runs, but you will also get a recommendation as well as the potential of a paid job out of it. So, if you are considering the move to SEND and this sounds like a good idea, why not get in touch with us at Axcis?
Where do I go from here?
If you are interested and would like to gain experience in a SEND environment, the first step is to register with Axcis online or call up your local office. You will need to attend a face-to-face interview and complete our registration paperwork, as you will still be eligible for all the same employment checks as a member of paid staff. However, our friendly teams can support you though this and you could be placed in a school within a day or two of completing this process. Axcis are working closely with the AET to provide work experience placements in their network of schools. We can offer this because we are a trusted and responsible agency looking to support the profession in any way we can.
What do you have to lose?
Registration with Axcis is completely free of charge and when you do secure paid work, our rates are competitive and we offer some fantastic training and development opportunities, so if you are considering SEND work but don’t know how to go about transitioning to the sector, get in touch today – what do you have to lose?
