Axcis Tip of the Week: Don’t forget our absence procedure

This week, our weekly tip comes from Misra. Misra is a Consultant for Axcis and works in the Bristol office. This means that she works with some of our busiest schools and as such often has day to day work available in the mornings as well as long-term vacancies to fill. Her tip is to make sure you follow our absence procedure if you are sick or unable to attend work for the day.

At Axcis, we know that the odd day off is sometimes unavoidable. However, you must always remember that as a supply member of staff, you are already covering another absent staff member, so you must try and keep days off to an absolute minimum. In this way, you will reduce the disruption caused to the school (and children) you work with. This in turn will ensure that your reputation and reliability are regarded highly by the school managers, and you’ll be more likely to be offered further work.

However, if a day off is simply unavoidable, don’t forget the procedure is to always contact Axcis first, and at your earliest possible convenience. In this way, we can liaise with the school and organise cover for you if necessary. Try to avoid calling after 7.30 in the morning as this gives us very little time to coordinate with the school to cover for you. If you know the day before that you are unlikely to be in, let us know then if possible! Even a message left on our voicemail in the middle of the night is OK, as we always check our messages at 7am as soon as we get to the office.

At Axcis, it is important to us that you maintain an excellent reputation – both for yourself and for us, since we are your employer! So please help us to help you… and always make sure you follow our processes. These should have been outlined to you when you attended our interview and will also be in your Axcis handbook.
