Darren recently joined Axcis Education, having worked within the education recruitment sector for the last three years in South Yorkshire. He has worked with many SEND schools and provisions over the course of his career and took the decision to join Axcis so he can focus solely on recruiting for the special educational needs sector.
Before recruitment, he worked for a charity called NACRO as a youth worker in an alternative provision, where he supported year 10’s and year 11’s who had been expelled from mainstream education mainly for behavioural reasons. He supported these groups for two school years and saw the year 10’s achieve some great exam pass marks in their final exams. He realised then the importance of having the right teachers and support staff to help inspire and support pupils with SEND. His TA work coupled with his more recent recruitment experience directed him to join a specialist SEND agency, where he could combine his passion for supporting SEND with his wealth of recruitment experience.
Darren has almost 10 years of experience in the recruitment market, working in a variety of sectors. This has given him a well rounded approach, which has provided him with skills to be able to identify needs & match the right person to specific positions. Darren enjoys the challenge of finding out the requirements of individual settings and providing the best recruitment solutions to fit with the school, provision and pupil’s needs.
Darren has a 6yr old who he devotes most of his spare time to. He enjoys family days out and entertaining his son at home, who has just started playing for his local under 7’s football team; Treeton Terriers – giving Darren a chance to relive his childhood days of footballing!
