Axcis candidate registration day – Slough 17th Feb

Axcis London are hosting a candidate registration day in Slough on the 17th February.

At Axcis, we understand that it is not always easy for candidates to make it into our office to meet with a consultant and complete the registration process. Whether it’s time, money or transport constraints, we know that sometimes at Axcis we need to go the extra mile to ensure the best candidates work for us, and in turn the special needs schools, and students who we ultimately aim to support.

Our last registration day in Slough was a great success!

Our friendly staff will guide you through the registration process

For this reason, Gary and Helena from the London office will be hosting a day for candidates from the Reading and Slough/Berkshire area to come and register in a more local setting.

The address for the day is:

Holiday Inn Express Slough
Mill Street Slough,
SL2 5DD
England

Directions:

From the M25 take junction 15 to M4 towards Slough. From the M4 take junction 6 and follow directions towards Slough town centre (1st roundabout straight through). At the traffic lights on the cross roads turn right, keep left on that road. At the 5th set of traffic lights (signed Gerrads Cross) turn left. Go over the bridge and at the second traffic lights turn right (Kia Garage on the Corner). On Mill street take the first right turn which will lead you into the hotel entrance. There is parking on-site or in the train station car park next door.

The hotel is located next to Slough railway station. It is less than a 2 minute walk from platform to hotel.

Will Axcis have local work once I register?

Helena works with a number of special needs schools in the Reading and Slough/Berkshire area. These schools generally cater for more severe special needs or are specialist schools for autism. Candidates wanting to register for work in this area would ideally have either previous experience working with special needs in a school setting, or with additional needs in a care setting. We often find that people with a care work background can transition well to working as a teaching assistant in special needs schools. Graduates with no experience but a desire to work in this field, as well as qualified teachers, are also very much of interest to us. Axcis can provide additional training for people with the right attitude and basic skills for working in a special school.

How do I register/book a slot for the day?

Axcis has a two stage registration process. The first step is to register online. If you have not done that already, you can do so here. It’s a very quick and easy process. The second stage is a face to face interview, which is usually held at one of our offices, but on this occasion is in the local area. If you are keen to book a time to see Gary or Helena in Slough, please email Gary@axcis.co.uk or call 0800 107 9900.

Gary and Helena will advise you of what you need to bring to your registration meeting once you have booked a slot, but if you are keen to start preparing now, the paperwork you’ll need to have is as follows:

  • CV and references (open refs are super but we also need the details so we can obtain confidential references)
  • Proof of address (ideally x2)
  • Proof of ID – passport, driving licence etc (ideally x2)
  • DBS Certificate (or cash to pay for a new one)

  • Professional certificates (teaching qualification, any other relevant certificates)
  • NARIC certificates (if your qualifications were gained overseas)
  • Proof of your right to work in the UK (Passport/visa)
  • Proof of registration with professional body (for teachers, therapists etc)
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable).

What do other candidates say about working in these schools?

“Helena has found me lots of work in the Berkshire area. Other agencies kept asking me to go into London for assignments, but the cost of trains and time it takes to get there make it impossible for me. I was nervous at first because I had not worked in a special school, let alone one where some of the behaviour could be so severe. However, Helena assured me that after our interview I had the right personality and attitude. I was asked to attend a Team Teach training course (which Axcis sent me on at a huge discount) and it really helped me to feel confident working with some of the more severe special needs students in school. Since registering, I have now done lots of work in a cluster of local schools and am getting to know the staff and students well. Axcis offer a good rate of pay and have really looked after me. I have referred a few mates sine then as I’ve been happy with the service. Thanks Helena!” Tom Carndale, TA for Axcis
